Documents Your Pet Needs (UK ↔ Spain, post-Brexit rules)

UK is no longer in the EU pet passport scheme, so UK-to-Spain travel needs an AHC. We walk you through it.

  • Microchip (ISO 11784/11785) registered before vaccination
  • Valid rabies vaccination at least 21 days before travel
  • Animal Health Certificate (AHC) for UK-to-Spain travel, issued within 10 days
  • EU pet passport for Spain-to-UK travel
  • Tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment by a vet 24-120 hours before entering the UK
  • Book early: only 20 pet spaces per monthly departure

Pet Transport UK–Spain: Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to transport a pet from the UK to Spain?

Our shared pet bus starts from €295 per pet for cats and small/medium dogs, and €450 for large dogs. Because pets share the vehicle instead of booking a private courier, prices are 40-60% lower than private pet transport between London and Madrid. There are no hidden fees: see our live price list on the booking page.

How does shared pet transport work?

Your pet travels on a fixed monthly departure date alongside other pets, each in their own individual kennel. Our bus runs from London Heathrow to Madrid Airport on the 3rd of every month, and Madrid to London on the 7th. You get photos and updates at every comfort break.

What documents does my pet need to travel between the UK and Spain?

Travelling UK to Spain: an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued within 10 days of travel, a microchip and a valid rabies vaccination. Travelling Spain to UK: an EU pet passport (or AHC), plus a vet-administered tapeworm treatment 24-120 hours before arrival. We help you check everything before departure.

When and where are pick-up and drop-off?

Departures are airport-to-airport: London Heathrow and Madrid Airport. The UK-to-Spain bus departs on the 3rd of each month and the Spain-to-UK bus on the 7th, so you can plan around a fixed monthly schedule instead of waiting for a quote-based courier availability.

Is road transport better for my pet than flying?

For most dogs and cats, yes. Road transport avoids airline cargo holds, long check-in separations and flight anxiety. Our pets travel in climate-controlled vehicles with regular comfort breaks every 4-5 hours, and owners receive photo updates during the journey.

Why is a shared pet bus cheaper than a private pet courier?

A private courier charges you for the whole vehicle. On our shared service, the cost of the driver, fuel and DEFRA-licensed vehicle is split across up to 20 pet spaces (2 large dogs, 6 small/medium dogs and 12 cats), so each owner pays only their share.
